Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists (LOS) is pleased to announce the addition of Thomas T. Wood, MD, Foot and Ankle Specialist, to its team. Dr. Wood will work in our Lafayette clinics and join Chris Hebert, MD to create Acadiana’s only tandem of fellowship-trained orthopedic foot & ankle specialists.
Prior to joining LOS, Dr. Wood served as an orthopedic surgeon for the United States Air Force where he was an assistant professor of surgery and deployed in support of tactical operations. After completing his military service, Dr. Wood pursued an additional year of subspecialty training in foot & ankle surgery at the prestigious Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction in Baltimore, MD. During this fellowship year, he trained under leading experts in minimally invasive techniques, ankle replacement, arthroscopy and traditional foot and ankle reconstruction.
Dr. Wood grew up in Jackson, MS. He attended the University of Mississippi where he played club rugby and graduated magna cum laude (BA Biochemistry). While playing rugby, Dr. Wood sustained knee and shoulder injuries, which introduced him to the field of orthopedic surgery. Ultimately, he underwent surgery for shoulder dislocations and was able to return to play for a successful senior season. The ability of an orthopedic surgeon to decrease pain and restore function made a lasting impression. Dr. Wood went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center before completing his orthopedic surgery residency with the Air Force in San Antonio, TX at Brooke Army Medical Center.
“LOS is a group of exceptional surgeons who practice what they are subspecialty trained in.” stated Dr. Wood. “They are also good people who care about their families and the community. There is a need for the skills I have learned, and my family fell in love with the great food and nice people in Acadiana.”
